 Sonia Hitchman

(Deacon nominee)

Sonia is a retired African American of Jamaican origin, who has been living in the Sutherland Place neighbourhood of Lake Clare, Atlanta for approximately 10 years. Sonia, a sinner saved by God’s wondrous Grace, has been an active member of the Sunday Morning Life Group Sermon Study for about 7 years.

Sonia acknowledged God as her Saviour publicly at a Billy Graham Crusade after asking God’s forgiveness and repenting of her sins as a young teenager. This life-changing event led her to seek more of God through His word as she worked in child evangelism and youth ministry and Sunday School ministries. God provided for her spiritual growth through Youth for Christ and Nurses Christian Fellowship as she left home for The University of West Indies.

Upon graduation as a Registered Nurse/Midwife, Sonia thought she had the tools to go into missions in Haiti or Africa, but that was not God’s will. She migrated and worked in other Caribbean islands prior to returning to her country with her family. God brought her to the United States through many dangers, toils, and snares. Today she is grateful that God has led her all the way and continues to look to Him.

Sonia has been active in church leadership and God’s work for more than 10 years in the PCA denomination. Since coming to Atlanta, she has continued volunteering with students and with iFace ministry here at Intown. Her best loved area of service is in Bible study, including Community Bible Study. Sonia says she looks forward to her work at Intown continuing in the lives of whoever God allows her serve through encouragement, prayer, and in any other way God sees fit to use her.
