Sally Littlejohn
(Deacon nominee)
I grew up at Intown from the time it first started as a plant of Perimeter Church, and my sisters and I made up the entire Sunday School program. Most of those years we were building hopping, until the current location was purchased and built my last year of high school. I came back to Intown 20 years ago as a newlywed.
I’ve been married to Wes for 21 years, and we have 2 children. Evan is 14, and Ansley is 12. I am a CPA and have worked in finance at Coca-Cola for the last 20 years. I’ve been working part time since my kids were born. I am about to pivot to a new finance career this summer, so stay tuned to what God has in store!
I became a Christian at a young age. My baptism was a more memorable event for me because it was in the Atlantic Ocean when our church went on a beach retreat. I was blessed to be raised in a home where God’s word and love were taught every day. I have continued to believe since I was young enough to understand God’s love for me. Nowadays my faith seems to resemble an assortment of characters I read about in the scripture. Some days my faith is strong, as I plug along in Bible study and am encouraged by heroes of the faith. Other days I worry about the future, trying to figure out life on my own, without letting God inside. And other days I can sing along to music that helps me praise, repeating words of truth over and over. I thank God for his Word that keeps drawing me back to truth of who He is and who I am.
I’ve been involved with various ministries at Intown over the years. Before my children were born, I taught ESL. I sing in the choir and lead music for Children’s Worship. I’ve taught Sunday School and helped with the elementary school choir Praise Gang. And our backyard is currently hosting IDX small groups.
I’m in a unique spot of watching my dad (Bob Culver), mom (Lynn Culver) and husband go before me in serving as deacons at Intown. My dad served as one of the first deacons at Intown when the role involved setting up church at a rental facility each week. My mom, who was one of Intown’s first women deacons, created a ministry for special needs children and their families. Wes also followed in his father’s footsteps, as his dad was a deacon at his church in South Carolina.
I believe this Covid season has provided new opportunities for the life of our church. I am still amazed that in a time of social distancing, we had such a large number of elder and deacon candidates willing to participate in training by Zoom. If we hadn’t been forced out of our normal routines, I wouldn’t have had time in my schedule to go through the deacon training process. I’m not sure how God will use me as a deacon, but I love these words from 1 Peter 4:10: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.”
