Intercultural Learning
Learning to love people across cultures
“We sense God calling us to lead the way in learning how to be cross-cultural Christians. We desire to be a church made up of people from many cultures, ready to serve people of many cultures, and ready to invite our neighbors to experience the kind of unity in diversity that is the fruit of the gospel.”
Jimmy Agan, Senior Pastor
International Education Peace Volunteers (IEPV) provides opportunities to grow in intercultural learning while also learning to love and serve one another across cultural and religious boundaries. IEPV uses evidence-based learning tools and practices to equip our volunteers with the habits of heart and mind to engage in constructive and empathetic dialogue across differing backgrounds, beliefs, and values. Intown partners with International Education Peace Volunteers for opportunities to practice this learning in engaging local cultural communities as volunteers.
What’s involved?
IEPV’s program at Intown encourages learning through ongoing exercises of self-reflection, assessment, practice, and guidance.
Assessment and Self-Reflection
The Intercultural Development Inventory assessment is highly recommended to all volunteers and requires a one-on-one virtual follow-up meeting with program coordinator Ben Allin to debrief the results. This usually takes about one hour and provides direction for ongoing learning exercises of information, assessment and self-reflection. Relevant literature will also be recommended.
Practice
Practice is achieved by engaging in regular volunteerism alongside people of different cultural backgrounds at your convenience in any of these different roles:
Cultural Ambassador Volunteers (Virtual and In-Person opportunities available)
Intercultural Discussion Facilitator Volunteers (Virtual and In-Person opportunities available)
Hospitality Volunteers
Host Volunteers
Coordinator Volunteers
Driving Volunteers
English Language Learning Classroom Volunteers
Other Language Learning Classroom Volunteers
These volunteer opportunities are available through our partnership with International Education Peace Volunteers. You can learn more details about these volunteer opportunities at https://www.peacevolunteers.ngo/
Guidance
Ben Allin will be available to provide ongoing guidance and care as you engage in intercultural learning. Contact him at Ben@intown.org or by text at 770-545-9859 to learn more about how you can grow through Volunteers Learning for Peace.
