What We Believe

 Changed. Known. Sent.

At Intown, our mission is centered around “gospel restoration.” The gospel is the good news that God has made the most glorious purposes of his heart known to us in the gift and sacrifice of his Son, Jesus Christ. When the power of this good news restores us, we are Changed, Known, and Sent

Changed
The gospel transforms the hearts and minds of individuals. Therefore, we pursue life-changing encounters with God and the power of his grace.

Known
The gospel creates a new kind of community among those who embrace it. Therefore, we pursue authentic, caring relationships.

Sent
The gospel empowers us to serve our neighbors, our culture, and our world. Therefore, we pursue self-sacrificial service to others.

The rhythm is key. First the power of the gospel works, and then we respond. Our response is not an attempt to earn God’s love by proving that we are “better” or “stronger,” but the overflow of the gift God has given us in his Son. Our deepest longings are met when the gospel comes first.

Our Beliefs

Rooted in a story larger than our own, Intown is a Christian church with Presbyterian leadership. That is, our leaders embrace and teach the commitments of our denomination, the Presbyterian Church in America, while we also welcome members who affirm the core of the Christian message as it has been expressed across centuries, cultures, and geography.

We affirm time-tested statements of Christian faith like The Apostles’ Creed, The Nicene Creed, and the Westminster Confession of Faith (our denomination’s doctrinal summary). Our core beliefs include the following:

Scripture
We believe the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and truthful in all that it affirms.

God
We believe that there is one God, and within the unity of this one God there are three persons. These three persons—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit—share equally in being God, they are equally powerful, and they have all existed from eternity in a relationship of perfect love.

Humanity
We believe that all people are created in the image of God, designed to enjoy and honor him by enabling life in his good world to flourish. Tragically, every human being has violated this design. While each person remains worthy of dignity and respect as an image-bearer of God, we are now alienated from God, from each other, and from the goodness of creation. This brokenness is beyond human capacity to repair; we cannot save ourselves.

Redemption
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who came to restore God’s purposes for humanity, and for all of creation, through his life, death, and resurrection. He offers complete redemption to every person who puts their trust in him.

Transformation
We believe that when we put our trust in Jesus, he transforms our hearts and lives so that we grow in whole-hearted love for God and in self-sacrificial love for our neighbors. He accomplishes this through the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit, who dwells with and in God’s people.

Our Final Hope
We believe that Jesus will return bodily and visibly to judge all people, to perfectly restore the peace of creation, and to welcome his people into that peace forever.
