Caleb Chilton

(Deacon nominee)

Hello Intown! My name is Caleb Chilton and I’d like to share a little bit about my testimony and my life. I was born to Christian parents and am grateful to say I’ve never really known a time where I didn’t know the love of God through my family. My earliest memory of consciously choosing to submit my life to Jesus was in the first grade. I grew up at Ivy Creek Presbyterian church, a younger sister church of Intown in Lawrenceville (also a Perimeter plant). I was blessed with many teachers and friends who helped me learn what it looks like to grow in faith in Christ. In college (UGA - Go Dawgs!) I joined the campus ministry RUF and soon became involved in leadership there. Through the teaching and mentoring I received there I began to mature in my faith and learn what it looks like to follow Jesus through life’s highs, lows, and everything in between. I am consistently humbled by the depth of my need for a Savior and for the grace that Christ shows me. When I feel alone, uncertain about the future, unworthy, or incapable I am learning to rest in the assurance that I am loved by God, and that I am already more deeply worthy of His affection than I can possibly imagine.

This recognition of everything that Christ has done for me drives my desire to serve as a deacon. When I first visited Intown, I was struck with how clearly the Gospel shone out not just on Sunday mornings but in the many ways the body of Intown is involved in serving the community, inside our walls and in the broader community. Since that time, I’ve been fortunate to get an up close and personal view of various ministries and I am continually humbled by the way God is using His people here. I’d like the opportunity to serve as a deacon in order to learn even more about how we can advance the kingdom of God in our community. One of the key elements of Jesus’s ministry was the service he performed and called his disciples to perform in his name. In many cases, non-Christians only interactions with the church may be through ministries of mercy, which provides powerful opportunities to share the love of Christ with our neighbors. This aspect of serving our community is what most excites me about the role deacons play in the church.

A little bit more about me, I am currently working in IT project management at AGCO Corporation in Duluth, where I have been for 5.5 years. I started an Evening MBA program through the Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business in the Spring of 2019 and hope to complete it by the end of 2022. I first got involved at Intown through the young adult ministry and am still in a small group there.  I became a member about two years ago, and I have served as an IDX small group leader of high school guys for almost four years now. At various points I’ve had the chance to serve with the ESL ministry, the International Welcome dinner, and the Intro to Intown team. Most recently I’ve served as a virtual greeter on the live streams.
