Sergio Castillejos
(deacon nominee)
My family served in the churches we attended since the day I was born. I grew up in the church, saw family members serving, and attended Sunday school every week. When I was about ~7 or 8 years old, I remember hearing a sermon about hell and how that was the destiny for anyone who did not know Jesus as their personal savior. I talked to my dad that night about how I was scared and did not want to go to hell. My dad explained who Jesus is, what he did for me, and what I needed to do to accept him as my Lord and savior. We prayed that night and I became a Christian.
To my shame, I did not fully dedicate my life to Jesus until I was in my 30’s. Glory be to God for his faithfulness – he did not forget about me or let my failings be the end of the story. I think that becoming a father and thinking about how we would raise our children led me to pause and examine my life. After a period of repentance and discipleship, I believe the Holy Spirit led me to decide that seeking to love God more each day is the most important thing that I can do.
My ultimate desire is to love God. It is my desire to do so because by his nature, God is worthy of my love, worship, and praise. I believe one way in which I can demonstrate love to God is to serve him, his church, and his people. I was asked to consider serving in the role of deacon and prayed asking God to guide my decision-making process and to close doors if this was not his will. I went through the leadership training and examination process and was blessed by the experience. I believe that God is calling me to serve in this capacity.
I am the General Manager of Heatcraft Refrigeration Products. Heatcraft is a division of Lennox International, an HVAC focused firm based in Dallas, TX. Heatcraft manufacturers refrigeration equipment for restaurants, grocery stores, schools, and other institutions. Prior to Lennox/Heatcraft, I held various roles in the fields of supply chain, marketing, strategy development and financial planning.
I am married to Natalie and together we have three boys: Andrew (12), Nathan (10), and Samuel (6). We relocated to Atlanta from Dallas in 2018. As a family, we enjoy exploring the southeast, specifically, road-tripping to find the many beautiful beaches and mountains. Our family also has an energetic golden retriever named Hobbes and a guinea pig named Lucky. We live in the Morningside neighborhood of Atlanta and the boys attend the Paideia School.
Since joining Intown, I have been a member of the Life Together Sunday School class, and for the past few years I have also been a part of the Wednesday morning men’s small group. I am also an occasional volunteer in Intown’s ESL4Peace program.
