 Jonathan Yoder

(Elder nominee)

I professed faith in Christ when I was 10 years old. I was raised in a Christian home, in a conservative Mennonite community and was exposed to the Bible and the Gospel from a young age. During a church service when I understood the depth of my sin, I confessed that I needed salvation. I have never left the faith, even though there are times when situations or my own doubt caused me to question what I believe. God’s grace has been evident in my life, pursuing me even when I haven’t pursued him. He has been faithful to me through multiple moves, marriage, family, and career.

As an adult, I became more aware of the doctrines of grace. That realization has opened my eyes and heart to the depth of God’s love, mercy, and grace; I more fully realize the reality of Christ’s redemption of me and the whole world. I am far from where I need to be as a believer. There are patterns of life that I wish were more in step with Jesus. But I know that He loves and cares for me.

I have a desire to connect people to each other since that is where growth often happens. As a parent of teenagers and young adults, I am keenly interested in helping Intown remain a welcoming and connecting place for young people. I believe that I am called to serve the church as an elder and look forward to using my gifts and passion in service of the Kingdom of God.

My work is with the US public health agency based in Atlanta on diseases and outbreaks related to water, sanitation, and hygiene. Rebecca and I are parents to 4 great children: Lauren, Carson, Austin, and Matthew. We have been involved with Intown since 2003, with some notable absences during a move to Chicago and while supporting an Intown church plant in Clarkston. We have been involved in several Sunday morning groups and have led home-based small groups.
