Katie Thompson
(Deacon nominee)
I have known about Jesus for what feels like my whole life. I grew up in the Catholic church (and school) and have believed as long as I can remember that Jesus was a real man and the Son of God who died on the cross and rose again. I believed God was real. But God became personal to me, our Creator to have a relationship with, in high school through the ministry of friends and Young Life. This was completely different to me, the idea that the God of the universe knew me personally. "Jesus knows me; this I love." I began to know Jesus, not just know about him. I began to understand that God knew me, loved me, and even liked me. Grasping that revelation caused me to contemplate the incredible truth that Jesus' death was in my place, in all of our places, to redeem us and to reconcile us. For God's glory!
I began attending Intown as a college freshman, having moved here from Savannah. God has used Intown to grow my faith and my relationship with the Lord through the faithful preaching of the gospel and deep truths expressed in worship which are things that particularly connect with me. And at Intown, I have learned of God's heart for community through beautiful experiences. For people living together as a body -- praising, weeping, celebrating, walking through valleys, eating, drinking, uplifting, reminding, praying -- to give and to receive in a community like this is a blessing like no other!
After ten years working in the home office of Mission to the World (the PCA’s office of international missions), Trevor and I became parents, and I moved home with our kids. Our kids are now 13, 10, and 8. A couple of years ago I began working part-time in the office of Intown School where our kids attend. At Intown, I have sung in the choir and worship team, attended and led Oasis Bible studies, helped in the nursery and at women's retreats, hosted tables at International Welcome Parties, and served on the Branding Committee.
The Lord gifted me with a strong and caring family-of-origin and again with my second family which I have through Intown. It's my pleasure and honor to be active in that second family. To love the Lord with all my mind, soul, and strength and my neighbor as myself is to use my whole self with the abilities he's given me. I have always enjoyed helping behind the scenes, especially to extend hospitality, a listening ear, or to connect a need with a resource. I'm honored and humbled to be considered for the role of deacon, and I pray I may be used by him for his glory and the good of our church.
