Light in the Darkness
Christmas decorations bring light to our lives on the short days of winter. In fact this idea—that Jesus comes into our world to bring light that overcomes the darkness of evil—is deeply rooted in the foundational stories of Christian faith. When the Gospel writers tell us of Jesus’ birth and early ministry, they draw attention to Old Testament promises and patterns that point to the need for light in a dark world. As we enter the Christmas season, we will look more closely at these Old Testament backgrounds to discover a life-giving truth: Jesus came into the darkness with us so that he could push back the darkness for us
