International ministries

Intown welcomes International students, scholars, and immigrants from across the globe who come to Atlanta.

Please join us to meet new people through the following opportunities.

Contact Paula Hunt at paula@intown.org for any questions about Intown's International Ministries.

international Friendship Community (ifc)

International Friendship Community: Rooms 204-206 on Sundays at 9:30 am. International students, scholars and immigrants from all over the world come to the U.S. to study, work, or begin a new life. IFC includes these international people as well as Americans who wish to make them feel welcome.

  • International Welcome Party: International Friendship Community is hosting it's 24th Annual International Welcome Party on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 6:30 pm. There are over 400 people come to the party every year. It's a great opportunity to connect with other international students, scholars and immigrants at a free evening of dinner and entertainment. Click here to see what you can help for this party.
  • IFC Women's Bible Study: To learn more about the Bible or deepen the knowledge you already have. Led by Rhiannon Evangelista and Juliana Lin. It's designed especially for international women but is open to both Christians and those who are curious about Christianity. This group meets at 7:00 pm on Fridays at Juliana's house. For information contact rhiannon.evangelista@gmail.com or julianachenlin@yahoo.com
  • Men's International Bible Study : We have meeting for men only every Friday night at 7 p.m. The meeting is in Clarkston at Josef's house. This study involves reading parts of the Bible, discussing the vocabulary, understanding the meaning in context, asking questions, and sharing how what we read makes us feel. Everyone is learning and everyone is welcome. Contact coordinator Ben Allin of IFACE for more information: benjaminallin1@gmail.com.
  • Community Group: Build relationships in a safe environment in a small group setting. Led by Dan Gyger and Ed Lin, Wednesdays, 7:00-9:00 pm. For more information contact dangyger@gmail.com or elin2@emory.edu.

Intown English (ESL)

Intown's English as second language (ESL) program attracts mostly international students and scholars from Emory and researchers from CDC. Spouses of students and researchers also participate. We meet in groups with teams of helpful American volunteers for English language learning and cultural exploration.

Our meetings are held from 7:00-9:00 pm on Tuesdays/Thursdays and 9:30-10:45 am on Sundays. Food and drinks are provided by friendly Americans. We also have holiday parties and go on short trips. Transportation to Intown ESL is available upon request.

International students and scholars are placed with teams of American volunteers in four different groups:

Group 1: Basic English communication skills.

Group 2: Conversation practice and discussion about everyday local situations.

Group 3: Higher level discussion and conversation practice involving idioms and expressions.

Group 4: Nearly fluent/fluent English speakers meet to share stories, discuss challenges, explore American cultures, and study trending topics and events.
