Intown English (ESL)

Intown's English as second language (ESL) program attracts mostly international students and scholars from Emory and researchers from CDC. Spouses of students and researchers also participate. We meet in groups with teams of helpful American volunteers for English language learning and cultural exploration.

Our meetings are held from 7:00-9:00 pm every Tuesday and Thursday. Food and drinks are provided by friendly Americans. We also have holiday parties and go on short trips. Transportation to Intown ESL is available upon request.

International students and scholars are placed with teams of American volunteers in four different groups:

Group 1: Basic English communication skills.

Group 2: Conversation practice and discussion about everyday local situations.

Group 3: Higher level discussion and conversation practice involving idioms and expressions.

Group 4: Nearly fluent/fluent English speakers meet to share stories, discuss challenges, explore American cultures, and study trending topics and events.
